Give your child a “How to Train Your Dragon” birthday party and watch their face light up.

If you are getting ready to plan your child’s next birthday party, chances are you may be overwhelmed with trying to plan, schedule and purchase everything you need for an awesome party bash. You want to make sure that you throw a party that everyone will remember and not have a theme that your child thinks is lame. Well never fear, you can get fired up with a “How to Train Your Dragon” birthday party. The popular movie is a hit with the kids and the dragon party theme can be fun for both boys and girls.

What is even better is all the decorations, party ware, favor boxes, balloons, party invites and thank-you notes are all packaged together as a kit. For busy mom’s, this is a blessing. You do not have to run all over time to find the cups at one store, but they are out of the matching napkins, so you have to run across town to get the rest of the set. The internet has truly simplified putting a birthday party together by picking out everything you need at the click of the mouse. The only thing you really have to do is plan ahead so your order will arrive in time and you also need an estimate of the number of guests coming so you can order enough of the party favor kits and supplies.

Now that the decorations are taken care of, you only need to pick a place, the time and the activities. Popular places for birthday parties for kids these days include the pizza places, bowling alleys, parks, indoor bounce houses, roller rinks and laser tag arenas. Again, by planning ahead, which is sometimes hard for us overworked moms, calling ahead and making a reservation will insure that you have a place to set all your decorations. The advantages of having your party at one of these venues is that you will have the activities already lined up, so that is just one more item you can check off your list. The second advantage is it is not at your house, so you don’t have to clean up before or after the party.

Of course, you can have the party at your house and one of my son’s favorite birthday parties was held in our backyard with the “Mad Scientist”.  You can check and see if there is a Mad Scientist in your area by going to www.madscience.org. The Mad Scientist captivated all the kids with his demonstrations of science experiments including making their own slime. They also all put together their own rocket and went home with a great favor kit of more fun activities. Other great outdoor activities are the inflatable bounce houses. You can either rent one for the day, or they even have some bounce houses made for non-commercial use that are cheaper and you can purchase then for backyard fun all summer long.

If you choose to have a Dragon party, another favorite party game is the pinata filled with goodies. The “How to Train Your Dragon” has a great looking red dragon pinata that I am sure the kids will want to clobber. There are a variety of party games you can choose and even make up, like pin the tail on the Dragon. I am sure that just having your child’s best friends and family there to help celebrate their birthday will mean the most to him or her and the Dragon theme is just icing on the cake.
